Join us for the third season of this popular seminar that demystifies the state legislative process, encourages effective advocacy and promotes citizen participation with state government.  Hosted by Hon. Stacey Newman, recently retired state representative, participants will learn how state government works, will hear from various leaders who are involved with legislative advocacy and will get the opportunity to vote with the audience on bills in You Be the Legislator“.

Hon. Stacey Newman recently retired from the Missouri House of Representatives, where she represented portions of St. Louis County and was Chair of the Missouri House Progressive Caucus. In 2018, Newman reached her term limit after joining the state legislature via a special election in 2009; she currently serves as Director of ProgressWomen. Prior to her legislative service, Newman was as a political consultant and founder and executive director of Harriett’s List, a statewide political action committee honoring the legacy of Harriett Woods, former Missouri Lt. Governor. Her legacy of leadership also includes serving as executive director of the Missouri Women’s Coalition and the women’s vote director for both the Missouri Democratic Party and Democratic National Committee. Newman also has served on the board of directors of PROMO PAC, the statewide equality group; the Institute for Women’s and Gender Studies, University of Missouri – St. Louis; Missouri Progressive Vote Coalition; the National Women’s Political Caucus of Metropolitan St. Louis; Central Reform Congregation and Congregation Temple Israel.
