Atia Thurman, MSW

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF THE CLARK-FOX POLICY INSTITUTE; MANAGER OF BROWN SCHOOL EQUITY AND INCLUSION INITIATIVES

In collaboration with the Institute’s director, Atia Thurman provides leadership, strategic and operational oversight and guidance in the programmatic work of the Institute, and helps to initiate and sustain strategic partnerships. Additionally, she continues to manage both short-term and long-range Brown School projects related to the implementation of strategic initiatives in the areas of community partnerships, social policy, racial equity and communications. She is a valued leader, visionary, and representative of the Dean and the School to a broad array of audiences.

Atia Thurman earned a Master of Social Work from the Brown School in 2002 with a concentration in Social & Economic Development. During much of her early career, Thurman oversaw a range of public engagement campaigns for regional initiatives and supported two federally-funded education grants. In 2015, she returned to Washington University to support the establishment of the Clark-Fox Policy Institute and in 2016 she joined the Brown School Dean’s office, managing priority initiatives focused on equity and inclusion.
