Demonstrating its commitment to connecting community and academia, the Clark-Fox Policy Institute hosted Children’s Division Director Judge Darrell Missey and Brown School Dean Dorian Traube for a tour of Urban Sprouts Early Childhood Center. Ellicia Lanier, Clark-Fox Policy Institute Scholar-in-Residence and Urban Sprouts founding Executive Director, led the tour. Assistant Professor of Practice at the Brown School, Dan Ferris and institute practicum student Becca Feeney also joined the tour.

Lanier highlighted the priority placement and the supports available at Urban Sprouts for foster families, echoing points made in Judge Missey’s earlier talk about the need for community organizations to fill in the gaps. The tour exemplified Urban Sprout’s dedication to a holistic view of child’s well-being, including nutrition and socio-emotional learning. The group discussed how to better connect researchers and policymakers to community organizations, with the overall goal of improved child well-being, healthy families, and strong communities.
