Marketing coordinator Sharon Rhiney calls herself a “citizen designer” who combines graphic design, social justice, nonviolence, and politics.

Sharon has been an independent contractor working for organizations like Empower Missouri, ProgressWomen, Back@You, and Life Fountain Healthcare.  Prior to that she was a graphic designer at Wells Fargo. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and Illustration from the Kansas City Art Institute.

In her role, Sharon expands the capacity of the communications team to share the amazing happenings at the Brown School. She will serve as a project coordinator, help ensure our website and targeted marketing lists are up to date, and develop digital communications on research projects, policy initiatives, and other programs.

Born and raised in St. Louis, she enjoys volunteering and sewing protective masks on her grandmother’s 1917 Singer sewing machine.  She comes from a family of trailblazers within the Civil Rights Movement. Her mother was one of the first 10 Black students enrolled at Saint Louis University’s first integrated class.
